SKELEC Team Returns Home After Supporting Jamaica’s Hurricane Recovery Efforts

Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 3rd, 2026) – The St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) proudly welcomes home four of its employees who have spent the past weeks in Jamaica assisting with critical power restoration efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The SKELEC team comprised Mr. Leroy Webster, Mr. Davel Sutton, Mr. Akeem Williams, and Team Lead Mr. Ezekiel Desent. They were joined by three linemen from the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC), demonstrating regional collaboration and solidarity in a time of need.
While in Jamaica, the team supported restoration activities in Savannah, Salmon Point, Grange Hill, Paradise, Duckie Lane, Hatfield, Keto, and Grange Hill. Their work was both extensive and technically demanding. It included planting new poles, changing over low-voltage (LV) lines to newly installed poles, tensioning both low-voltage and high-voltage (HV) lines, installing transformers, and making LV connections to restore service to affected communities.

These efforts were instrumental in returning electricity to homes and businesses, helping families and communities regain a sense of stability after the storm’s destruction.

Reflecting on the experience, Team Lead Mr. Ezekiel Dasent shared: “I got a lot of joy from being of service to the people of Jamaica, and likewise, they expressed joy for the service that the SKELEC team was able to provide. It is moments like these that make me feel proud of the work I do.”.

SKELEC recognises that power restoration in post-hurricane environments requires not only technical expertise, but courage, resilience, and teamwork. Climbing damaged poles, handling live infrastructure, and working in challenging conditions underscore the level of commitment required for such missions.

“The company commends the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the team and reaffirms its commitment to regional cooperation in times of crisis. Their service stands as a testament to SKELEC’s values and its belief that we are truly stronger together.”, said Mr. Clement Williams, General Manager at SKELEC.

As the team returns to Saint Kitts, SKELEC extends its heartfelt appreciation for their sacrifice, skill, and unwavering commitment to service beyond borders.
