Basseterre, Saint Kitts (29 October 2026)— The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) is pleased to announce a major milestone in the rollout of SKELEC Connect, the Company’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) programme, with more than 5,000 smart meters successfully installed across St. Kitts.
Introduced under the tagline “More Power, Your Way”, SKELEC Connect represents a significant investment in modernising the island’s electricity infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and enhancing the way customers interact with their electricity service.
With over 5,000 installations completed, the programme has reached more than 20% of its current deployment target, bringing modern metering technology to thousands of households across the island.
Through SKELEC Connect, traditional electricity meters are being replaced with advanced smart meters designed to provide more accurate and timely consumption data. As the programme develops, SKELEC Connect will also provide the foundation for enhanced customer access to electricity usage information, empowering households to better understand and manage their energy consumption.
Beyond the technological advancements, this milestone reflects the dedication and collaborative efforts of SKELEC’s AMI deployment team and supporting departments.
Speaking during the recent In Focus: How Flagship Programmes Empower Our People discussion at the Budget 2027 National Forum, SKELEC’s General Manager, Mr. Clement Williams, emphasised the importance of the Company’s workforce, stating, “People are our biggest asset.” This achievement underscores that commitment, recognising the employees whose technical expertise, professionalism and continued efforts are driving the successful implementation of SKELEC Connect.
SKELEC also extends its appreciation to customers and communities for their cooperation throughout the installation process. The rollout of SKELEC Connect remains ongoing, with installation teams continuing their work across St. Kitts as the Company advances towards its wider deployment target.
