SKELEC Conducts Fire Drill at Buckley’s Sub-Station

Basseterre, St. Kitts (Tuesday 23rd, April 2024)— SKELEC successfully conducted a comprehensive drill at Buckleys Indoor Substation on Cayon Street as part of its commitment to enhancing safety protocols and preparedness. The drill, which simulated an explosion scenario, was aimed at testing the preparedness and coordination of first responders, was conducted in commemoration of SKELEC’s Safety Week of activities. The exercise provided a valuable opportunity for all parties involved to assess their response protocols, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen collaboration in managing potential emergencies.

The drill was meticulously planned and executed by SKELEC’s Safety Week Committee in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Services.

Mr. Clement Williams, General Manager of SKELEC, stated: “At SKELEC, safety is our top priority. Conducting drills like these not only ensures that our teams are well-prepared to handle emergencies but also underscores our dedication to protecting the well-being of our employees and the community at large.”

Mrs. Claricia Langley-Stevens, Safety and Security Manager of SKELEC also emphasized the significance of proactive measures in ensuring safety, “Today’s drill exemplifies our proactive approach to safety. By regularly testing our response capabilities and fostering partnerships with external stakeholders like SOL gas station, the JNF Hospital, Fire and Rescue Services, we can better safeguard our operations and minimize risks to our personnel and the public.”

SKELEC extends its appreciation to all participants, including the SOL gas station team, the management of the JNF Hospital, Flow technicians, Fire and Rescue Services as well as the emergency responders, for their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
